In endoscopic surgery, and especially in laparoscopic surgery, the inner organs of the abdominal cavity and thorax are diagnosed and treated. The examinations are carried out via an endoscopic system that is placed via one or several trocars. A xenon light source illuminates the operating area via the endoscope. For surgical intervention today, high-definition video cameras are used. This provides more reliable information than non-invasive preexamination, such as ultrasound or X-ray control.
The corresponding working instruments are inserted into the abdomen under view through trocars which in most cases measure 5 mm.
Especially for surgical indications the endoscopic procedure guarantees maximum reliability in image interpretation, thus minimizing the risk of complications.
The use of endoscopy in surgery allows a correct diagnosis and therapy in the least aggressive way.
